What is University Grants Commission (UGC)?

The University Grants Commission (UGC) came into existence on 28th December, 1953 and became a statutory Organization of the Government of India by an Act of Parliament in 1956, for the coordination,determination and maintenance of standards of teaching, examination and research in university education.

What is the National Testing Agency (NTA)?

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), which is now known as Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GOI) has established the National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained premier testing organization under the Societies Registration Act (1860) for conducting efficient, transparent and international standards tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admissions to premier higher education institutions.

What is UGC NET Exams ?

The University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) is a national-level exam that determines if Indian citizens are eligible for certain academic positions. 


1) To become an Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges
2) To receive a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges
3) To be admitted to a PhD program in Indian universities and colleges
4) To receive fellowships from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Ministry of Minorities Affairs

When UGC NET Exams are conducted ?

The UGC NET exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is held twice a year, usually in June and December, to determine eligibility for Assistant Professor and/or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) positions in Indian universities and colleges.
